Chan Kau On was born in Dongkun County, Guangdong Province, in 1946 and moved to Hong Kong in 1954. He is presently a committee member of The Hong Kong Artists' Association, and Chairman of The Sketching and Painting Unit.
Four years after graduating from The Hong Kong Fine Art School in 1962, Chan held his first solo art exhibition. In his thirty years of artistic study and research, he concentrated on applying the realistic style to various painting techniques and practicing Chinese traditional Shui-mo painting. Recently, he endeavoured to create a unique style using line-drawing techniques combined with multi colour wash to achieve a "Colourful Hong Kong" series. His vast knowledge and remarkable works led Hong Kong Telecom to invite him to design the cover for the Hong Kong Telephone Directory, 1997. He participated in over 70 solo and joint exhibitions both locally and overseas. His impressive talent has led various museums, organizations and private collectors to hold collections of his works. His publications include "Sketches of Chan Kau On","Chan's Hong Kong" and "Hong Kong Street Scenery by Chan Kau On". |
